Windows 7 Is Over; Windows 10 Upgrade is “Do or Die”

When Windows 7 was the most-used operating system in the world, hackers worked tirelessly looking for weaknesses. Some wanted to make Windows 7 better. Most wanted to find a way to take advantage for financial gain. Microsoft worked to fix these weaknesses, providing updates and patches to make Windows 7 more secure.

Microsoft isn’t doing that anymore. As you may have heard (from every single major news outlet this week), Microsoft will no longer provide security updates for Windows 7. Windows 7 is officially over.

What are they doing instead? They’ve already done it. Microsoft released Windows 10 in July 2015 — almost five years ago! — and provided a free upgrade to the new OS for a full year.

While most conscientious users have upgraded to Windows 10, Net Applications, a web analytics company, estimates that over 30% of Windows PCs  are still running Windows 7.

The time has come, however, to replace those machines or completely remove them from internet access.

Leaving unpatched computers on your network is like leaving your office windows open after hours. It puts your business at risk. We urge every business owner still running Windows 7 (or an even older operating system), to make an upgrade plan as soon as possible.

Do you struggle keeping up with security updates? How are your other cybersecurity protections such as firewalls, antivirus, and spam blocking?
